And boom goes the dynamite.

Is what I am chasing after obtainable?

No seriously.

There may be a chance that it just isnt. Some people are just simply big boned. I was online today and saw an ad for a online store, advertising this dress. It was gorgeous. Cocktail dress. Super classy. I have another wedding to go to in May so I thought to myself "Well, check it out!"

I click and it brings me to the store. Now, I am fully aware, most places dont carry over a 12. But every once in a while you get lucky. I was crossing my fingers for this fact.

And I was in luck. they carried this stunner in sizes xs-xxl. I was elated.

Until I looked at the size chart.

*****ATTENTION DRESS MANUFACTURERS*****

Um. Fuck you. A dress made with the measurements 38-29-39 IS NOT A FUCKING XXL!!! Thats like, a medium! I cant even imagine who squeezes into your xs. Toddlers?

This was not a "junior plus site". Which, I know, the sizes are a little different then plus size. It was a regular womans store. Honestly, am I chasing a fantasy?

At my lowest weight ever, I was still rocking a size 12. Id like to get down to an 8. Id love to walk into a store and be able to not have to search for double digits or double letters. But its very possible that thats just not realistic for my body type.

Its not that Im giving up. Far from it. I am as determined as ever that this weight will come off. And Im not looking to be rail thin. Ew. Not my style. But am I doomed to wander Torrids clearance rack forever?

And on that note: where the hell are all the cute online plus size clothing stores? I have a few(Torrid, Hot Topic, Target,Debshops.com,wetseal.com,old navy(for basics)) But whenever I enter "Plus Size Clothing" into google, I get hawaiian print mu mus and shapeless teeshirts and granny pants. Frustration. Complete and utter frustration.

I know that most of us are just getting our toes wet...is there anyone that reads my blog that has already lost this kind of weight (80+ lbs) and kept it off successfully? I have so many questions! Two in particular.

1. I know that at some point my body will slow down losing weight and I will hit a plateau...what kind of things can you do to prevent or minimize this stage? Can you even do that?

and

2. Excess skin...Im assuming that my body will be lookin like stretch armstrong when I do actually drop all 80 pounds. Is surgery the only thing that conquers that arena?

My lovely ladies, I hope you are all doing fantastic!

WELCOME!!!!

To my new readers!

Another Day and Brownerl!

Thanks guys. Pull up a seat and enjoy the madness!!

  1. Hey girl. I completely understand where you're coming from on the size front. I'm pretty convinced I'll never be smaller than a size ten even after I lose all 50 pounds. But just remember, the size isn't important, it's how the clothes fit that really matters. I'm anywhere from a 12 to a 16, depending on the store. If something obviously won't fit you, move on and find something else that's probably way cuter. Funny story - I used to shop at Torrid all the time, and I also used to work at a DEB store, hahaha.

I haven't lost any weight yet, but I know that to prevent loose skin you need to lose weight slowly - 1 to 2 pounds a week.

    Chin up, hun. : )

  3. Hello beautiful-

I know someone that's lost almost 100 pounds...she is on a rampage and still wants to lose quite a bit more. The point is, she knows what she's doing- check her out- alltheweigh2009.blogspot.com you may already be following her.

As far as the plateau- my WW leader lost 190 pounds and she said the best thing you can do once you plateau, or to prevent a plateau, is to switch up the foods you're eating. She said it's hard because you tend to think, "I know these foods work, I've been eating them this whole time and losing this whole time" but chances are you're eating them too often and your body has adjusted to it, so you need to switch up your foods quite a bit. Try new things, new recipes, etc. I know when I started plateauing a little once I tried going vegan for a little bit- while I could never stay vegan forever, it did kick me out of the 150's, so now if I plateau again, I'll do that again (change my foods).

As far as saggy skin- I've heard that if you lose slowly (1-2 lbs/wk) you won't have saggy skin problems. I don't know though, I've never lost significant amounts to be able to tell you, but I'm sure if you search some blogs, you can find someone who has lost 100+ who has pics up so you can see.

As far as clothes- it's always going to be hard to find cute stuff. Bottom line, even in a small size, there's a lot of crap out there and it takes time to find great stuff. I agree with Miss Erika- it should matter more how it looks on you than what the size says, as sizes change from store to store all the time anyway.

Good luck lover! Still cheering for you!

  4. I am careful to stretch everyday to avoid the saggy skin.
Diet and exercise for weight loss....stretching for lymph drainage!

  5. I heart you ladies!

I guess if worse comes to worse, i'll try and find some rich, formerly-fat-so-she-knows-my-pain penthouse wife to pay for my tummy tuck.

    Alright...now back to reality.

  6. I haven't quite lost 80+ lbs... I'm working on it!! But I have lost about 50. It's been slooow. At the most I've lost 4 lbs in a week, but the average is 1-2. I haven't seen a problem with saggy skin, but I am also incorporating weights in addition to cardio, so that may be helping. For plateaus, well, they're going to happen. I agree with Diz... changing up the food helps. Also, once in a while have a high calorie day. Usually I stick to 1500 calories, but sometimes if I'm not seeing a loss I will up that for a day and it actually works.

I'm with you on the never being skinny as a rail thing. I think when you are bigger boned you just need to be realistic about losing weight. I will probably never look good any smaller than a size 10.

  7. Hey sister, getting the right size is always going to be an issue.. I was so happy when I got to a 10 I thought thats it the 12's are over but I still have to where a 12 in some clothes and even one pair of 14 pants still fits me snug wtf??? I think you shouldn't have an issue with saggy skin as long as you exercise and lose slowly and the right way (except for maybe your boobs, i hate to tell you) I lost 60lbs and didn't see saggy skin and actually my stretch marks started to even fade. Good luck girlfriend, you doing it right!!
